Momentous Occasion Doily

A Patricia Kristoffersen design found in the book "Ultimate Doilies".  Made with #10 thread using a #5 hook.  Measures 22 inches (I do block rather tightly).  The pattern called for a #4 hook, but that was a little too large for me.  I normally crochet #10 thread with a #7 hook.  Started 4/5/2013; finished 4/14/2013.

And the book it comes from....

  16. I spent all weekend working on a doily, and then this popped up in my Reader, and I suddenly wondered why I even bother! You do amazing work.

You know what I'd love to see? I'd love to see one of these doilies in the process of being blocked. Just how many pins do you use, and do you starch them?

  17. Michelle....I simply pin the doily on a styrofoam poster board (I do have the board covered with contact paper so it will last longer). I start at the center and work out...removing pins from the center as I move out. My boards (I have 2) are awful to look at .... really worn. I give them a light spray with starch once I'm satisfied with the blocking......just the cheap brand from Walmart. DO keep crocheting! I've been at it for over 50 yrs!!!
