Wonderful retirement!

It's been ten (10) months since retirement began and I have to tell you it is wonderful!  I worked past the normal retirement age in order to do some "catchup" in my 401K plan, which really helped, but at 69 1/2 it was time.  Mentally I was ready for it, and I haven't looked back once since that day!

I definitely have a lot of "PROS" for my retirement:

  • Not having to get up before dawn and leave the house before 7AM; then not get home most nights until 7PM; sometimes later.
  • Being able to do those little things in house cleaning that you never had time for with such long hours.
  • Being able to put a pot of "anything" on the stove when I want to, rather than concentrating on cooking up things on the weekend for the next week.
  • Having my weekends free for a change to enjoy.  With working it was a time for grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc., while still making church.
  • Having time to do my daily Bible study without having to rush thru it because of so many other things when you are working.
  • Being able to eat healthier because I have time to cook healthier.  I'v been concentrating on a whole food-plant based way of eating and it is paying off!  I've lost 22 lbs since retirement and it continues to "slide" off a pound or so a week.
  • Being able to take a late afternoon walk and admire God's creation.  Sit in the outdoor swing and just swing away if I feel like it for a while.
  • Being able to spend more time with my husband and not always feel like we were "passing in the night".
  • Being able to enjoy more my "addiction" of thread crochet.  Right now I'm making doilies and a couple of runners for a fund raising auction in May that will benefit a Christian school in the area.  It's so satisfying to be able to do this!
  • Of course, there are the excursions/trips that you can plan, without having to be concerned about how much vacation time you have accumulated.
  • Being able to do all kinds of extra things that I never had time for with working.
Yes, retirement is definitely agreeable with me!  I thank God that He has given me good health that allows me to enjoy it all with "hubby"

Thanks for stopping by and may God bless you and your family!

How wonderful! We're hoping Hubby will be able to retire in about five years. We have so many dreams for that time. The company I worked for closed so I "retired" several years ago and love it for similar reasons you state. Enjoy!
Blessings,
Betsy

I enjoyed reading your post very much. I have to tell you, you look totally awesome. I can see the happiness in your smiling face. How wonderful to get to enjoy your retirement with your Hubby. I know I am glad you are able to do more crochet things, because I so enjoy seeing all the pretty things you make. I loved the part where you said you were able to spend more time with God and His word. Wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day sweet friend. ((hugs)). :)

Congrats on your retirement. From you picture, it definitely agrees with you!! Your dog is so cute. (You knew I'd notice the dog!) Glad you are enjoying your extra time off. I am too, but I still can't seem to get anything done! Can't wait to see what you're making for the auction. Happy Valentines Day! ♥♥♥

I really enjoy being retired, too, especially when I don't have to get out and go to work on cold, rainy days.

Hi Linda, You are looking amazing. I retired at the ripe old age of 37 to help my son with his studies. :) Now that he is settled I devote all my time to crochet either crocheting or learning new stitches and patterns. Thank you for this post which has made me realise that I should also engage in other activities too. Your "passing in the night" comment made me smile as due to my hubby's hectic schedule that is literally the way we are living at the moment. Your doilies are gorgeous and I'm always looking forward to your new creations.
Wishing you all the very best for a wonderful retirement filled with crafty goodness and good health.
Regards from India. :)
